I'm going to cast my vote for L'Opera on sukhumvit soi 39. It's a Bangkok institution.

Street stalls, to me, are better than any restaurant. Every time I go there I just love the street food. It's fresh, delicious, and so cheap. The sound and smog from the street and the ice in the beer is just the icing on the cake.

It's located just a little east of the Ratchateri BTS stop, on the south side of the street. Anyway, it serves mostly Isaan style food. Damn good somtam. Stays open late. No farang in the vicinity so the food is spicy and the prices are low. Their specialty is yam plah dook foo, that dish with fried catfish and mango salad. Shit its tasty. I wish I knew the name. I'm not even sure if it has a sign, though.
