Suffix –an

The suffix –an is used to form adjective meaning done or happening in the measure indicated by the root word.

Examples:

Circumfix

Circumfix ke- …–an

Circumfix ke-...-an forms nouns from adjectives.

Examples:

The formed nouns identify the characteristics of the root word

Notes:

There are also some nouns which do not identify the characteristics of the root word.

Circumfix ke-…-an can also be combined with tidak, a negation.

Circumfix me…-kan

The circumfix me-…-kan forms causatives. This means the verbs formed by circumfix –kan become the cause to be ….

Notes:

- Use the same transformation rules as explained in the prefix me- …

For example me + s à me + ny

-        It is also common to use only sufix kan, instead of me- … -kan

For example: mandikan, kembalikan, lahirkan, senangkan, sewakan.

Circumfix  pe-...-an

In general the circumfix pe-…-an form nouns referring to the action indicated in the root words.

Following are examples of circumfix pe-…-an nouns that refer to the action of the correspondinig root words.

pe-...-an nouns refer also to the place where the action of the corresponding root words.

Examples:

The circumfix pe-...-an also form nouns referring with the object of the corresponding root word

Circumfix per-...-an

The circumfix per-...-an nouns indicating the act of doing what the root word indicates.

Examples:

The Circumfix per-...-an form the process or result of the action referred to by the corresponding verb of the root word.
