A passenger train derailed Monday in southern Thailand after saboteurs loosened a section of track. Nine people were injured. A three-meter section of rails was unscrewed, sending the northbound train off the tracks. Local officials suspect that Muslim rebels were responsible. The train, carrying about 200 passengers, derailed about 750 kilometers south of Bangkok in Pattani province's Kok Pho district.

Foreign embassies in Bangkok have warned their citizens to exercise caution amid mounting security fears ahead of a court decision over whether to dissolve Thailand's two largest political parties, Thai Rak Thai and the Democrat Party. Australia, Canada, France and Japan have all advised their citizens to show a high degree of personal security awareness as a verdict Wednesday could trigger violent demonstrations in the Thai capital. Some 900 police will be deployed on Bangkok's streets on Wednesday, protecting the Constitutional Tribunal offices and setting up checkpoints to deter party supporters from traveling to the capital from the provinces. Meanwhile, some 15,000 Thai troops are now on alert across the country to deter possible violence.
