The number of blocked Web sites in Thailand since the coup has increased by 500 percent as of January, according to the campaign group Freedom Against Censorship Thailand. The number of blocked sites as of Jan. 11 was 13,435, compared with 2,475 in Oct. 13 of last year. Sites blocked by the military-imposed government include anti-coup Web sites such as 19sep.org and Thai Web discussion boards. FACT said no identification of the blocked websites has been disclosed to the public, nor do the involved government agencies disclose what criteria they use to block some sites.
